- Cloud communications is fueling strong demand for SIP trunking
This is a continuation of an outsourcing trend. It’s the process of enterprises and service providers outsourcing their communications infrastructure to specialized companies that do this on a much more efficient basis. To make it practical, 20 years ago there was a PBX in a closet in a small business that had to be maintained and connected to a local voice carrier. That functionality is now moved to servers at a data center that are managed by specialized companies.
Nowadays companies are really migrating to Unified Communications, through dedicated server based architectures, or Cloud approaches, at increasing rates. Our customers are signing up those businesses and enterprises, all the way down to small businesses. They are moving their telecommunications functionalities to these outsourced cloud architectures, and then they want to bring their phone numbers with them.
From the outside world, there’s been no change. They still have the regular phone number, but they have a lot more functionality and cost savings that they enjoy. As a process of that migration, they have to take the phone numbers from the old carriers and bring it onto a SIP platform, and that’s where we come in and we facilitate that in 55-plus countries all over North America, Europe, Latin America, Asia Pacific, and adding new countries every year
2. Many IT professionals are in the process of moving their companies through this migration.
They may have selected a platform based on the vendors that they’ve worked with before and the ones they’re certified on. Once they’ve implemented – let’s say they’ve selected Microsoft Lync, or Skype for Business – then they can start taking advantage of all the capabilities that platform brings to their company, and to themselves. For example, they may try new ways to accomplish conferencing. They could turn to a Voxbone and acquire telephone numbers all around the world, and map those directly into Microsoft Skype for Business, and dramatically change the cost and the functionality of their conferencing features for their teams
3. A lot of exciting energy being focused on WebRTC and SMS APIs
How can enterprises take advantage of browser-based telephony through Voxbone’s network?
